Epic Poker League Could Be In For Lawsuit
The Epic Poker League has done fairly well to this point, except when it comes to avoiding conflict. It kicked off with Chino Rheem’s issue of the debts that were owed to fellow poker players, which the EPL had to take action on. After that, Michael DiVita was then not allowed to participate in the Main Event after he won his seat through the Pro-Am, due to the fact that he was a registered sex offender. Unfortunately for the league, the situation with DiVita isn’t going to go away just that easily.
DiVita told his situation in an interview, and essentially said that the EPL refused to pay him the $20k buy-in that he had won, and only offered to refund the $1500 buy-in to the Pro-Am. DiVita declined this and said that he would play in the Main Event instead, and things got bad at that point. According to DiVita, he was told that the league would stop it from happening, and that it would become public and embarrassing. After security was brought in to the situation, DiVita finally took the $1500 and was escorted out of the casino.
But that’s not where it will stop for DiVita, who feels that he is still owed the additional $18,500, and said that if it is not sent to him within ten days, that he would file a lawsuit against the Federated Sports & Gaming, the Epic Poker League, and all of its partners. DiVita stated that he would also charge for damages and any civil rights violations against him as well.
It will be interesting to see how the EPL decides to handle this situation, as they do have a very strict code of conduct for their league.
