Chris Moneymaker to Host $25k Poker Tournament

One of the brand new casinos that opened in Pennsylvania recently, has brought in one of the bigger names in poker to to host a $25k poker tournament to open their brand new poker room.  Chris Moneymaker was the winner of the 2003 World Series of Poker, and will host a single table tournament at the Presque Isle Downs and Casino on the 15th of October.  The event will be held just after the ribbon cutting ceremony, which will happen at 6pm EST.  There will also be a VIP party that will take place just prior to that as well, and will be one of the many festivities to take place for the poker rooms opening.

The poker action starts off on October 3rd, with $83 satellites to get the opportunity to play against Moneymaker in the $25k event.  These satellites will run through the 14th, when there is then a nine table shootout event for the ninety total qualifiers from the satellites.  Those tables all play down to one winner, and those nine players will get to play against Moneymaker for the chance to play at the main table.  In this event, every player out of that final ten will make money for their efforts, with the first player eliminated taking home $1,000.  The winner of the entire event will take home $10,000, and second place will win $5,000.

Poker in Pennsylvania has been on the rise lately, and both the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker Circuit has began holding events in Pennsylvania based poker rooms.  The WPT hosts one Main Event and three Regional events at the Parx Casino in Philadelphia, and the WSOPC will hold ten events, and the $1500 Main Event at the Harrah’s Chester.
